Our history

An advisory foundation, expanded with discipline.

Founded in New York in 1999, Aurelius began as an investment advisory partnership for families navigating generational and liquidity transitions. The firm subsequently added institutional private-market capabilities while retaining one shared discipline for underwriting, portfolio construction, and stewardship.

That evolution informs the firm’s model today: begin with the purpose and constraints of capital, apply specialist investment judgment, and preserve accountability after implementation.

Principles

What should remain consistent as the firm evolves.

01

Independent judgment

Evidence, incentives, and downside cases matter more than the comfort of consensus.

02

Whole-portfolio perspective

Every decision is considered in the context of liquidity, concentration, and the purpose of the capital.

03

Alignment before activity

Clear objectives, decision rights, and expectations come before implementation.

04

Selectivity over volume

The ability to decline an opportunity is as important as the conviction to pursue one.

05

Stewardship in practice

Ownership carries an obligation to engage thoughtfully, monitor material risks, and report candidly.
